Swedish Institute scholarship offers within the Visby Programme


Upcoming calls for applications within the SI Visby Programme

The Swedish Institute (SI) Baltic Sea Region Cooperation now has the pleasure to announce four upcoming scholarship calls for the academic year 2016/2017 within the SI Visby Programme.

New for this year is the opportunity for Swedish-speaking students and teachers to study one or two semesters at a Swedish university, in Swedish language. 
The aim of the Visby Programme is to build an integrated, knowledge-based and research-intense region, centred on the Baltic Sea, but also bridging to the Eastern Partnership countries and the Russian Federation.

Scholarships for Swedish-speakers

Countries of eligibility
Belarus, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine

Scholarship offer
Students and teachers with knowledge of Swedish (at the least B1/B2 level) are welcome to apply for this new scholarship, for studies in any subject taught in Swedish at any Swedish university, for one or two semesters. The scholarship amounts to SEK 9,000 per month, as well as a travel grant. 

Outbound Swedish scholarship holders

Countries of eligibility

Scholarship offer
Take the opportunity to invite a Swedish student, researcher, teacher or expert to spend 1 to 12 months in any of our partner countries. Applicants are required to submit an official invitation with their application. SI provides a monthly grant along with a travel grant.

PhD studies or research

Countries of eligibility
Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russia and Ukraine

Scholarship offer
PhD students and postdoctoral researchers are provided with and excellent opportunity to conduct research at Swedish universities within all academic disciplines and during the following periods:
• PhD students – up to 12 months
• Postdoctoral researchers – 6, 9 or 12 months
• Senior scientists – up to 6 months

The scholarship amounts to SEK 15,000 per month for PhD students and SEK 18,000 per month for postdoctoral researchers and senior scientists.

Master's level studies

Countries of eligibility
Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine

Scholarship offer
University graduates are welcome to apply for a SI  scholarship for studies at one-year (60 credits) or two-year (120 credits) master's level programmes starting in the Autumn Semester 2016. Scholarship holders on one-year master’s programmes may also apply for an extension of the scholarship to pursue an unpaid internship in Sweden (up to 5 months).

The scholarship covers both the tuition fee and living expenses to the amount of SEK 9,000 per month.

Swedish citizens can apply between Thursday 1 October – Saturday 31 October 2015 for visits beginning in the spring of 2016.

Master's level studies

The application process consists of two parts:

1. application to the eligible study programmes via the national online application service at on 15 January 2016 at the latest;
2. application for a Swedish Institute scholarship via 1-13 February 2016

> SI Summer Academy for Young Professionals (SAYP) 2016

Do you want to build professional contact networks and develop your skills in transparent, efficient and sustainable public administration? Are you younger than 36 years old? Apply to the Swedish Institute's leadership program for the new generation of public officials!

The SI Summer Academy for Young Professionals (SAYP) is a leadership program, designed as a two-week intensive module where the aim is to network, exchange and build new knowledge of transparency, openness and innovation in public administration. SAYP requires excellent skills in English and is open to participants from Estonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Moldova, Sweden, Ukraine and Belarus beloning to any of the following categories:

  • Public servants
  • Policymakers
  • Civil society workers

The application period for the SI SAYP 2016 will preliminary open on 4 January 2016. Keep an eye on our website where more information will be uploaded during the autumn.
